Abolicionista estadounidense. Fue directora del Young Ladies' High School, en Boston, entre 1828 y 1830, cuando se casó con Henry Chapman, comerciante de Boston. En 1832, con otras 12 mujeres, fundó la Asociación de mujeres antiesclavistas de Boston. Más adelante pasó a ser asistente jefe de William Lloyd Garrison y le ayudó a dirigir la Asociación abolicionista de Massachusetts y a dirigir The Liberator, publicación antiesclavista de amplia circulación. En 1839 publicó un panfleto en el que sostenía que las divisiones entre los abolicionistas surgían de sus desacuerdos acerca de los derechos de las mujeres.
